We got the final word that Matt's company would allow him to telecommute and so he is definitely coming with me to Geneva. Since that detail is decided, however, we now must do a zillion different things that all seem to take a lot of time and be fairly annoying. Looking at apartments online has been really fun though. Tonight it is all becoming real as we are purchasing our tickets and realizing that we leave in about 6 weeks. Also, tickets are not cheap. Really really not cheap.
Last night was one of those nights that will make me miss being in the states. It was my friend Kieran's birthday and a big group of us showed up at one of my favorite pubs to celebrate. Kieran's cousin Emeric was there and was pretending to be Irish, speaking in a thick brogue. The waitress was a good sport about this, but I don't think she believed it at all. One of my other close friends, Brian was there and was in rare form. I persuaded him to order a Delerium Tremens and then we split a bottle of Delerium Nocturne, teased Kieran, complained about the bar exam, and just made each other laugh. Poor Matt though had this look of indignation at having to put up with the loud (now former) law students. We left around 10:30 as everyone else was heading to the next bar on the ersatz pub crawl. We decided to take the long way home, by the University and the river. The sunroof was open, the windows were down, and there was a perfect breeze. The local radio station was on a fantastic tear, playing David Bowie's "Man Who Sold the World" and then causing me to crack up by playing Nada Surf's "Popular." Perhaps it is the many years removal from high school that makes that song fun and not excessively painful. Or maybe its because my mom still says I'm a catch.
